I am SO EXCITED to finally be able to share the cover art for SNOW STRUCK, which is going to be published by Delacorte Press / Random House Kids in early 2022!
When my amazing editor (and author!), Wendy Loggia, asked me if I had any ideas for the cover art, I asked for anything by Mike Heath / Magnus Creative. That’s the artist who created the cover art for STORM BLOWN, and you can see a little of his process for that cover here.
Mike came back with so many amazing options that it was hard to choose just one . . . but we finally narrowed them down to one image that really captured the spirit and the action of the book. With jacket design by Larsson McSwain, it became the cover art at the top of this post!
SNOW STRUCK is the story of a massive blizzard and some of the people and the animals in its path, and even though it’s not just set in New York City — no spoilers, but some of my favorite scenes are in Nantucket and Greenland! — it’s very much inspired by the ten years I spent living there (when I worked at a book publishing company in the Flatiron Building).
I packed a lot of my favorite things into this book, so I hope you’ll consider pre-ordering from your favorite bookstore — and if you do pre-order, be sure to scroll down for some fun pre-order goodies. There’s going to be more stuff like this closer to publication, so if you haven’t already, you can sign up for updates here!
Now available for pre-order from your favorite bookstores!

“Neither Elizabeth nor her little brother, Matty, have ever been north of Georgia. They’re used to sandals and shorts, not boots and parkas. So when they fly to New York City to spend the holidays with their cousin Ashley, they want to experience one thing: SNOW!
Ashley can’t wait to show her cousins how magical Manhattan is at Christmastime. But instead of a week of fun, what they get is an arctic blast that knocks out the power and plunges the skyscrapers into darkness. It’s unreal: the blizzard covers the Statue of Liberty in ice and topples the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center!
When Ashley’s dog, Fang, gets lost outside, the cousins take matters into their own hands… and are caught in the storm’s dangerous path as they chase Fang across the frozen city. Can the little Pomeranian survive the cold, snow, and ice blanketing Manhattan? Can they?“
Snow Struck Pre-order Goodies!
Thank you so much for 1) pre-ordering Snow Struck from your favorite bookstore, and/or; 2) requesting it from your local library!
You might have heard that those are two of the very best things you can do to support a book. If you’re wondering why, it’s because “the pre-order quantity is a good early indicator of a book’s success, and can lead to retailers increasing their initial orders” (that’s from my publisher’s website) — so even though Snow Struck isn’t publishing for a while, you’ll be helping me out a ton by getting some pre-orders in the system!
If you want to fill out this form—to thank you for being an early booster and helping my books find their way into the world!—I’ll mail you:
– An official “Courage Arctic Expedition” sticker (designed by me!)
– A signed “library pocket’ bookplate
Fine Print: This promo is available in the U.S. and Canada and is only valid while supplies last (I’ll be mailing out bookmarks and stickers and bookplates until my supplies run out). International readers, if you fill out the form, I’ll check the shipping rates and see what I can do. By pre-ordering and filling out the form, you may also be eligible for more fun SNOW STRUCK stuff further down the line 🙂
Official Snow Struck and Storm Blown Merch!
If you like the design from the pre-order goodies and wish it was on a shirt or a tote, I’ve got good news! A couple of people asked me if I was going to make shirts after they downloaded the free Storm Blown and Snow Struck Coloring Book . . . so I designed a couple of shirts based on those illustrations and started up a store on TeePublic. I’ve tried out a bunch of different options and everything is super-soft (even the classic tee — pictured below in charcoal heather) and the prints came out awesome!
If you’re interested in ordering, you can see all of the designs here.*
Thanks to my friends at TeePublic for setting me up with a promo code (good for the entire month of July, but not while other site-wide discounts are running). If you’re ordering and don’t already see a discount at the checkout, enter the promo code SNOWSTRUCK for 30% off!
* Sizing note: If you’re ordering classic, the fit is true-to-size. If you’re ordering the women’s “extra soft” tri-blend, I might suggest ordering a size up (that’s what TeePublic recommends and it seems to be the way to go!).
Download the Free Storm Blown and Snow Struck Coloring Book!
Snow Struck might not be coming out for a few more months, but I recently illustrated a fun, animal-inspired coloring book for Storm Blown and Snow Struck. It’s 8 full-sized pages and features fan favorites and quotes from the books… and you can download it for free here!
If you color any pages, be sure to tag me on social media (I’m @nickcourage everywhere) so I can see and share your pictures! For more downloadable resources (like crossword puzzles and word searches!), visit this page for Teachers, Parents, and Librarians.
